ONE ROOM CHALLENGE |WEEK 2&3|

ORC-Guest-250.png

So! I may have combined the ORC Week 2 & 3 together. I have made a fair amount of progress in the two weeks. I completed the 3D renders of the space, which really brought it all to life. I really love seeing the Tricorn Black cabinets against the Sea Salt walls. It is a really clean contrast that I love. Take a look at some of the renders below:

Week 3 got a bit more hands-on. I had already removed all the cabinet doors. I then washed and lightly sanded them down just a bit. I then started the priming process. Sherwin Williams has a really great primer that is perfect for my cabinets. Especially with the oak underneath. After reading a bit about painting cabinets, apparently if you don’t prime over oak- the tannings of the oak can soak through. Aaannnd I really don’t want that.

All doors and cabinet boxes are now primed and ready to be painted this week. I am really excited to see the dark color go on. I am waiting on hardware and faucet this week as well. Once those get delivered, I will install and then the cabinet will be done. I did decide to add some really pretty marble contact paper to the bottom of both the upper and lower cabinets.

ONE ROOM CHALLENGE | WEEK 1 |

The One Room Challenge | Week 1 |

It is that time of year again- The One Room Challenge kicked off this week! If you are new to the ORC, it is a design challenge that happens every Fall and Spring. Designers select a space in their own home that they will transform in a six week period. Each Wednesday and Thursday we post our updates through blogs and Instagram. Be sure to check out the ORC website- per usual, there is some amazing talent and even more incredible transformations.

Last year I chose to tackle my home office and I am so happy with how it turned out. Although, I still haven’t found the right desk chair. Maybe I can do that during this six week period! HA.

This year I am going to design the least used room in our house- the LAUNDRY ROOM and a little bit of our back entry hall as well. Even though isn’t a space I love to hangout in, I would like to make it what I want. When we moved in August of 2019- it was blue and had a wall of white metal shelving. That all came down and we had it painted Sea Salt by Sherwin Williams. We also bought the black finish washer and dryer. So…it had a bit of a head start, but there is still more work to do. Here are the before photos I took earlier this week:

Here is the To-Do list:

  • Paint the cabinetry Tricorn Black from Sherwin Williams

  • Replace the Faucet

  • Add hardware to cabinets

  • Add two black floating shelves above the W/D

  • Replace rugs

  • Add artwork

  • Replace ceiling light

  • Maybe add backsplash behind sink

  • Organize bins in cabinets and on shelving

It may not sound like much, but I have never painted cabinetry before- so this will be interesting. I am also not touching the floor. I would like to replace it, but it is fine for the time being.

Here is my concept board for the space:

One Room Challenge | Week 6

ORC-Guest-250.png

The last couple weeks have provided many of us some time to take a step back from social media and take a collective pause to focus on what is really important. I appreciate ORC allowing us this time.

I can’t believe we are already into Week 6!! These weeks have flown by! It’s definitely GO TIME!

Since I’ve decided to hold off on the wallpaper (though, I may still do the desk and shelf wall at some point, just not sure it will be before the finish of ORC) I have finished painting the room and I have to say- I love it! I was a tad nervous that it would come off too blue, but it added a really nice brightness to the room that I didn’t know the space needed.

The next big item is the new floor install. I am hoping that can be done this week or the very latest next week. I have had all my office furniture in my Foyer and Great Room- its about time they get back to their home in the Office. haha.

I have received two of the art pieces and they are amazing! The two larger pieces should be ready to go later this week. My sister, @emilyheckerphotography designed these and they are perfect.

The pillow for the accent chair is also in- its a tad bright white, but it will still work. @thepillowcollection makes really beautiful pieces!

For this next week, I will be waiting on the last few items (Desk Chair, Drapery Rod and Drapery Panels) and now that a lot of the retail places are open, I will be able to get out and start finalizing the accessory pieces to really complete the space. I am excited to see everything come together!
